Hoists

Hoists are a ceiling mounted solution that minimises use of floor space when bike is stored. They work using a pulley system. Bikes are suspended above head height and exploit unused vertical space. A locking mechanism secures the pulley and prevents accidental release. Weight capacity is typically 50lbs (20kg) with most models.

Typical Context of Use
Garages, halls, offices, store rooms – anywhere with ceiling height to spare. Installation: screw into joists in the ceiling. Most kits include all fixtures
.

Number of Bikes per Unit
1.

Approximate Cost per Bike
from £29.99.

Ease of Use/Time to Lock
Pulley system enables bikes to be lifted up and out of the way easily. Rope is then tied in a similar fashion to a Venetian blind. Typically this method of storage is more time consuming than floor based systems. You can’t lock your bike to the pulley.

Strengths
• Makes use of unused space
• Takes up no ‘footprint’
• Compatible with a wide range of bicycles
• Lifetime: approximately 5 years, depending on context of use

Weaknesses

• Will not suit low ceilings
• Offers no locking opportunities
• Offers no storage opportunities for clothes and accessories
