Anchors & Rails

These pieces are more fittings than furniture and take up very little room when unoccupied. They offer a highly secure point to attach a lock but do little in supporting the bike.

Typical Context of Use
They are normally fixed to a wall but can also be attached to the ground. Installation: normally directly into wall / concrete using fixing bolts or located in a garage setting.

Typical Length of Stay
Short / medium / long.

Number of Bikes per Unit
1- 3 bikes.

Approximate Cost per Bike
from £22-£60 approx for anchors.

Locking Opportunities/ Lock Compatibility
Adequate / Poor – only wheel and / or frame.
All types of locks providing they fit through the anchor and rail.

Ease of Use/Time to Lock:
Rails are typically very easy to use, similar to the Sheffield stand. Anchors require more time and dexterity.

Strengths:
• High security
• 5-25 years depending on finish and context of use
• Cost effective
• Unobtrusive

Weaknesses

• Difficult to secure both wheels and frame without appropriate locks
• Only lock one bike unless cycling in a pair/group
