Hooks

Hook type parking allows for discreet parking provision with limited impact on surroundings. Exterior versions provide strong and secure fixing points for cycles without obstructing pathways. Often locking opportunities for wheels are restricted.

Typical Context of Use
Semi-Restricted or Restricted Access. Workplaces, Business and Leisure Sites. Installation: fixing bolts into wall, or sunken shaft into concrete if part of rack

Typical Length of Stay
Exterior, Short (0-3hours+), Interior Med-Long (4-8 hours+).

Number of Bikes per Unit:
1-8 bikes.

Approximate Cost per Bike:
£15-£78.

Locking Opportunities / Lock Compatibility:
Good - Frame and some also one wheel.
Some D-Locks and some Chain type.

Ease of Use / Time to Lock:
Locking times can vary from 1 to a 3 minutes as the user need also to attach the bike to the hook.

Strengths:
• Relatively low cost
• Maintenance costs are low
• 5-20 years, depending on finish and context of use
• Supports a wide range of bicycles

Weaknesses

• Poor locking techniques, i.e. only locking the wheel which does not provide all the security for the bike
• Not very aesthetic
